The Associate Degree of Counselling prepares students to counsel in a wide range of professional and community settings such as Christian counselling, spiritual counselling, relationship counselling, family counselling, as well as grief, loss, and trauma counselling. Students will gain a solid understanding of what it means to be a counsellor in individual and group settings, in conjunction with knowledge of supportive and intensive therapies. Graduates will have the ability to:

  • apply a critical understanding of Christian worldviews across a wide range of disciplines
  • apply theological and professional reflection to their practice
  • apply professional practice in counselling with diverse people in a range of contexts

The Associate Degree of Counselling provides an exit option for students who do not wish to complete the Bachelor of Counselling. It demonstrates skills and knowledge acquired in the study of counselling and related areas.

Course Plan

The Associate Degree of Counselling has a flexible course plan that is tailored for each student depending on their interests, and the area of counselling they intend on practicing in their career. Goals are discussed during the admission interview, which are translated into a personalised course plan.

/ Five units (45 credit points) from the field of Counselling within the discipline of Christian Life and Ministry;
/ at least 9 credit points in the discipline of Biblical Studies OR the sub-discipline of Pastoral Theology;
/ A further 18 credit points (two units) from the list of approved units.
