SUMMARY:2019 Roundtable #1
DESCRIPTION:“In essentials unity…” \nA conversation about the anchor points that underpin our unity in Churches of Christ. \nFour events  |  Four locations \nChurches of Christ do not have an official statement of faith or creed. We prefer to take the New Testament as our standard for doctrine and practice.\nWe say\, ‘Where the Bible speaks\, we speak; where the Bible is silent\, we are silent’ and ‘In essentials\, unity; in non-essentials\, liberty; in all things\, charity’. \nThis allows us to take a generous stance as we engage in debate about disputable matters\, reserving the option to agree to disagree. But this begs the question: what are the “essentials”? What are not matters of liberty but are core items that are intrinsic to identifying as a part of Churches of Christ? \nACOM invites you\, as a leader within Churches of Christ\, to a Roundtable conversation about this topic. A Roundtable is very different to a seminar.  \nThere is no keynote speaker who will attempt to give definitive answers. It is rather a facilitated exchange of ideas in which each participant is both a contributor and a learner.  We’re convinced that theology is done best in community\, and that truly useful theology can emerge from a community of wise\, experienced practitioners. Not that we will all come out of this conversation thinking the same thing\, but we’ll all have a richer understanding of the issues and be better equipped to exercise godly leadership. \nPlease let us know you’re attending\, by registering via the ACOM website. To ensure everyone can participate freely\, numbers are limited to 12 participants at each venue. We will also send you some pre-reading that will help you to engage deeply in the conversation on the day. \nFacilitators: Dr Rick Lewis / Leon Munro / Dr Stephen Smith / Catherine Kleemann \nSee ACOM Roundtable Brochure here \n
