Companioning Others Pastorally and Spiritually in a Highly Sexualised World.
5th February, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
This is a professional development day designed to provide tools and insights for leaders, pastors, formation directors, pastoral carers, mentors, chaplains and youth workers. It will explore how they can walk alongside those who are struggling with pornography and its impact on their life.
We believe this area is a pressing issues for those involved in ministry and and formational work with others. Recent Australian research has identified that up to 75% of men and 40% of women have accessed pornographic material in the past year and its greatest consumers are teenage boys aged 14-17.
Companioning others pastorally and spiritually in a highly sexualized world will explore biblically-informed frameworks for healthy sexuality as well as key issues in working with those who are struggling with or addicted to pornography.
Well-known Christian Sydney-based sexologist Patricia Weerakoon (patriciaweerakoon.com) is one of our guest speakers for the day, bringing sessions on how the use of pornography affects the human brain and our relationships with others. Keith Farmer will contribute to the day from the perspective of an experienced mentor working with Christian leaders and his background as a psychologist. In addition, the day will include a facilitated workshop, exploring the ways a greater understanding of this issue can inform our own formation as well as our leadership practices with those we lead and mentor.
Cost: $40 (includes morning and afternoon tea)
Guest Speakers: Sexologist Patricia Weerakoon and Keith Farmer, Mentor to Christian leaders across Australia.
