Conflict Resolution (VIC)
Tuesday, 20th September @ 9:00 am - Thursday, 22nd September @ 5:00 pm
Conflict occurs in all areas of life – personal and professional, private and public – and the Christian church is no exception. Unfortunately, conflict is often ignored or handled poorly, resulting in little or no resolution. When conflict remains unaddressed it can spread like a cancer creating deep seated rifts, rupturing relationships and potentially escalating to a full-scale crisis. Yet conflict need not always be negative. As you will come to learn, the marriage of differences that first seeded conflict can also be a crucible for creative newness and transformation.
The intention of this course is to equip you to proactively and constructively respond to conflict by engaging in it with skill and confidence. There are two dimensions to this proactive and constructive engagement. Firstly, we aim to develop skills that address conflicted situations that involve you personally. These skills include: increasing your self-awareness, enabling you to manage emotions, insightfully diagnose root causes of conflict, and develop the skills to be able to approach the other person with both assertiveness and empathy. Secondly, we aim to develop your skills as a third party in conflict resolution, so that you are able to make appropriate interventions and assist others in conflict.
