OUR POSTGRADUATE MINISTRY QUALIFICATIONS

If you already have an undergraduate degree (or its equivalent in professional experience), the School of Graduate and Professional Studies is where you can specialise and focus your learning.

Considering the challenges that come with modern life, it is critical for each student to explore their own personal journey of self-awareness, social development, spiritual understanding, and faith surrender.

In the safety of an intimate group of fellow learners, the process of Deep Spiritual Transformation is a transformational journey: going deeper in union with Jesus – to be surrendered for mission; developing resilience – to be empowered against the pressures of ministry; growing self-awareness – to be a safe minister of the Gospel of Peace.

Students are keen to see the relevance of their subject content applied to their own work or ministry context. Work Integrated Learning ensures the theoretical knowledge you are acquiring is being grounded in real-world practice.

Students acquire first hand the practical skills that make them employable, while earning credit for their degree through work placement, internship or volunteer projects. Integrated practice is at the heart of ACOM’s learning experience. We will support you in reflecting on your learning and improving your practice throughout your studies.

Action Research emphasises transformation – for the student and their organisation. While addressing a real-world challenge at their place of work or ministry, the student engages in a purposefully reflective process to improve the way things are done.

Students will document, under the guidance of their supervisor, an exploration of how they plan to improve their ministry practice – while being transformed themselves.

Using scenarios, case studies and simulations, students are challenged by problems modelled on real-world issues and challenges. Problem-based Learning encourages you to draw on your existing knowledge (and that of your peers) to investigate, research and learn how to find solutions to complex real-life situations – applying theory to practice.
All students are encouraged to have an immersive overseas learning experience. Either with a study tour, mission trip, special research project or personal pilgrimage.

While tailored for your own desired learning outcomes, this cross-cultural encounter is designed to deepen your understanding of the world and expand your abilities to appreciate diversity, adapt to different experiences, communicate effectively and collaborate in teams.

Master of Leadership

It’s time for a different kind of Christian leader.
In this rapidly changing world, you need to possess deep spiritual conviction and a passion for mission, but with great skills in organisational management. The Master of Leadership focuses on building leadership capacity for people involved in a wide range of religious, not-for-profit and social enterprises. Students may be working for organisations in education, welfare, aged care, disability services, local church or other ministries that require specific leadership training for ministry or mission.

The increasingly sophisticated religious not-for-profit sector now demands that its leaders have both great spiritual leadership depth and professional management skills tailored to the unique needs of a mission-based organisation. Built on a strong biblical and theological framework, the Master of Leadership is designed to help students become effective leaders for a rapidly changing world. Regardless of their context, effective leaders will be agents of change who can help ignite and manage the transformation of their organisation and our society.

Choose your own special emphasis from the following /
Community Sector Stream /

This programme focuses on real-world survival skills for those engaged in leading not-for-profit social enterprises in hospitality, education, welfare, aged care, disability services, local church or other ministries.
Mission Stream /
Utilising the resources and global connections of the Alliance Institute for Mission, students can focus on international or local missions with an emphasis on hands-on service and experiences.
Transformation Stream /
In collaboration with the global Christian Spiritual Formation network, including organisations such as The Renovare Institute and The Apprentice Centre, this programme focuses on personal spiritual formation as a foundational dimension for spiritual leaders seeking to be agents of transformation in our society.
Church Stream /
The skills required of church leaders are now more complex than ever.
This programme focuses on governance, risk management, human resources and finance, which are all necessary to manage the day-to-day running of a growing church community.

Choose your own personalised learning mode from the following /
Be part of a face-to-face learning cohort /
Being part of a student cohort is a great way to learn. Specialised cohorts create an experience of learning that immerses the students in particular areas of study. Cohorts focus on the importance of learning in community, offering participants the opportunity to develop relational networks with like-minded ministry practitioners.

Study online from anywhere in the world /
We understand that postgraduate students are usually already working in a professional role involving mission or ministry. You are already learning on the job and want to incorporate your working experiences into your studies while developing the skills and knowledge to meet the challenges you face in a changing work environment.
