This course recognises that people called to serve in ministry, mission, and not-for-profit contexts can enhance their effectiveness by developing a deeper understanding of team dynamics and leadership. Teams play a vital role in accomplishing organisational and ministry goals, yet effective teamwork requires more than goodwill. It involves clarity of mission, healthy relationships, appropriate structures, effective decision-making, and the ability to navigate conflict and change.
The course is designed for those who currently serve in teams as well as those responsible for forming and leading them. Students will explore the biblical and theological foundations of teamwork alongside key principles from contemporary team and organisational theory. Topics include team formation and development, roles and expectations, team culture, decision-making, conflict management, and factors that contribute to team effectiveness.
The unit is offered in two streams. The General stream is designed for ministry students and those serving in church and not-for-profit contexts. The Intercultural stream addresses the additional challenges and opportunities faced by teams working across cultural boundaries, whether internationally or within multicultural settings in Australia.
